“It might seem counterintuitive that Asian defenders of democracy are among the most ardent supporters of Mr. Trump, who has declared his friendship with Xi Jinping of China and Kim Jong-un of North Korea.”
It is.
The article lacks any serious attempt to quantity the extent of these feelings among these dissident communities.
Three paragraphs from the end of a thirty paragraph article the author acknowledges that “some Asian dissidents acknowledge that the antipathy toward Mr. Biden is driven in part by a deluge of online misinformation that paints the president-elect as a secret socialist or contends, without any proof, that foreign “communist money” turned the election against Mr. Trump.”
The “low information voter” is not unique to America.
Xi Jinping’s MAGA buddy has also withdrawn from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and has been mum about Chinese strategic efforts in the South and East China Seas, and the Arctic, all of which has made the United States a less effective counterweight to China’s expanding influence.
And Trump’s hypocrisy regarding Uighur detention camps is less discernible in societies such as these with access to online propaganda and no countervailing free press.
