A Marlborough developmental disabilities provider filled dozens of vacant caregiver jobs by hiring new arrivals from three local shelters. But it didn’t come easily.

Rosmy Dorcelus is one of 41 recently arrived migrants hiredin the last 10 months by Thrive Support and Advocacy to provide care for and teach skills to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. For years, the Marlborough nonprofit struggled to fill these jobs. After learning that Haitian migrants sheltered at a nearby Econo Lodge in Northborough had been authorized to work, Thrive’s leaders sought them out. Within a few months, the small agency hired dozens from three local shelters, allowing Thrive to expand programs for the roughly 1,000 people it serves, includingsome who had languished on waitlists for years….
