Hang onto your masks. (And use them.) This ain’t over yet. (PEH)

The night before TrumpFest–the RNC convention– the president rushed in front of cameras to announce a non-breakthrough “breakthrough” COVID therapy that already has been administered to 70,000 patients, Operation Warp Speed notwithstanding.

The press can take a pass on the rhetorical “why this, why now?” question many are asking with respect to this press conference. The curtain goes up tomorrow. What’s to know?

Drs. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Birx, the Coronavirus Response Coordinator, both of whom have been trashed by the president in social media, were not present.

FDA commissioner Stephen Hahn and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar fell over themselves in a remarkable display of competitive sycophancy, lavishly praising Trump’s leadership.

President Trump, evidently still pissed at the FDA for pulling the plug on emergency use authorization of hydroxychloroquine, tweeted that “The deep state, or whoever, over at the FDA is making it very difficult for drug companies to get people in order to test the vaccines and therapeutics… is hoping to delay the answer until after November 3rd. Must focus on speed, and saving lives!”

The FDA blinked.

First the US Postal Service, now the FDA. What other agencies do Americans still have confidence in?

Let’s see…Department of Justice, State, USPS, FDA, three or four inspectors general…VP Biden, should he succeed, will need a Secretary of De-Trumpification.

Still whining that the Man has it in for him— doctors, scientists, journalists….anyone who can count or remember the last news cycle.

The question of the hour was raised and trampled on— what is the difference between a) “effective” and b) “promising efficacy.”

The consensus among scientists and physicians who have been using convalescent plasma for months is “B.” Stay tuned.

And by the way…it still isn’t the China Virus.

Today’s count is 176,000. 9/11 x 60 by the end of next week.
