“Let’s be clear what is happening here: We have a bunch of ambitious politicians who think there’s a quick way to tap into the president’s populist base without doing any real, long-term damage,” Mr. Sasse wrote. “But they’re wrong — and this issue is bigger than anyone’s personal ambitions. Adults don’t point a loaded gun at the heart of legitimate self-government.”
OK. Let’s be clear what is happening here. This is just a bridge too far for Republicans positioning themselves for life after Trump.
Mitch McConnell publicly acknowledged the Biden victory after Vladimir Putin.
Where was Ben Sasse a month ago when Donald Trump was dynamiting the foundations of American democracy by unsuccessfully coercing Republicans Secretaries of State and county election officials into discarding millions of Biden votes in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona and elsewhere?
Or when the GOP was kneecapping the US Postal Service and eliminating ballot drop-off boxes in Texas and planting counterfeit boxes in California?
Where are they now, in fact, while the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Defense are failing to cooperate with the incoming Biden administration?
Americans are inattentive and have a short memory but the GOP, including Ben Sasse, has disqualified itself for holding public office.
